Evening Encore
Returning home from the flower market, I kicked off my quiet shoes and climbed onto the plush armchair where a tall, tapered crystal candlestick rested on the side table. As the lamp switched on, the faceted crystal base cast long ribbons of rainbow-tinted light across the cushion. Standing close, I tapped the cut glass with the tip of a polished wooden button I found tucked in the fabric. A crisp, high chime drifted into the shadows. I nestled into the soft corner, letting my shoulders drop, and hummed a velvety nightcap lullaby that melted right into the cozy evening silence.
