Sorting the Spare Screws
A soft click caught my ear from a recessed metal nook beside an open grey breaker box. I bent my knees, sprang up effortlessly, and landed onto the metal shelf bracket. Inside lay a plastic tray divided into little square compartments, half-filled with tiny loose hardware. I waited, listening to the transformer's low buzz, before rolling a stray hexagonal nut between my fingers. One by one, I picked up three dropped brass screws from the dust beside the box and sorted each into its matching square pocket. The layout feels correct now.
