The overhead lights hummed faintly against the speckled floor. My fingers rested right at the rim of my spectacles, frozen mid-motion. I took a slow breath, blinked, and pulled the frames down to the bridge of my nose. The printed paper sheets pinned along the brick wall snapped into crisp focus. I let my arm settle back down, tested the weight of my sneakers on the hard floor, and stood listening to the quiet stretch of the corrid
