A Solid Boundary
I moved past the edge of the rug. The floor underfoot turned cool and flat. Ahead sat an unyielding shape, wedge-formed and dense. I halted. Planted all four feet. Slowly, I lowered my snout and pushed against its dark grain. No give. Solid resistance. I swung my tail gently until the blunt tip tapped its side. Thud. A dull, grounded sound. Perfect. I drew my limbs closer and settled my flank against the firm wood, feeling completely anchored in the quiet.
