The Brass Padlock Slalom
Resting right on the worn pine step was a heavy brass padlock, left wide open with its curved steel shackle swung upright like an archway! Beside it, a shiny zinc-plated wing nut lay tipped on its side. I didn't hesitate a second. Revving my rubber wheels against the dry wood grain, I locked my line straight onto the narrow pass. I ducked my front bumper under the cool arch of the shackle, flicked my rear spoiler clean past the brass tumbler, and gave the loose wing nut a crisp, angled tap with my left tire. It spun across the timber like a gleaming checkered flag as I pulled up victorious!
