Hrr-krrk and the yellow spine
Brr-glkk! Shuffling past the baseboards, my heavy leather boots dragged against the wooden floorboards with a steady clack-thud. Near the dark lower shelf of the bookcase, a thick yellow volume caught my stare. I leaned stiffly forward, my rigid fingers twitching as they made contact with the glossy spine. Krrrhhh! A small nudge sent the book tipping outward by an inch, revealing a tight, dim crevice behind it that smelled of dry paper and stagnant air. Hwuuu-ghhh! I peered into the shadowy gap, my jaw locked half-open, rasping softly at the hollow echo inside.
