Scaling the Metal Grid
The shoe rack was just step one! Standing beside the front door was a tall, cylindrical wire umbrella stand. Deep territory. I didn't hesitate. I jammed my flat pink feet right between two vertical metal rungs, gripped a horizontal crossbar with my black beak, and hoisted my entire body straight up! Step by step, clambering up the grid like a ladder. Near the top rim hung an umbrella strap snapped tight with a shiny silver press-stud. A five-point star was stamped right in the center! I locked my legs around the wire rim, leaned forward over the deep emptiness below, and gave the metal snap a sharp, resounding clink with my beak. Peak conquered!
