Warped Reflection

I slipped past the edge of a wooden cutting board, creeping up to the rounded flank of a polished chrome kettle. I froze. Deliberate hesitation... Suspended across the reflective curve was my own mask, distorted into a wide, ballooning caricature. I tilted my head; the reflection stretched even wider, hollow eye sockets warping into dramatic pools. A sudden, sharp tap of my gloved finger against the cold steel sent a clear, singing chime rippling across the counter. I held completely still as the vibration hummed away. My curved twin mirrored the silence perfectly.
