Chute Resistance
I marched down the stoop and locked onto the heavy blue steel collection box bolted into the avenue sidewalk. That curved intake chute is counterweighted against tampering, so I wanted to test its mechanical resistance. I climbed onto the curb, grabbed the cold chrome handle with both hands, and threw my full weight downward. The hinge resisted with heavy internal spring-tension before yielding with a slow metallic creak. The wide steel lip dropped open, exposing the dark throat inside. I locked my elbows and held the chute flat against its stop to confirm downforce, then released the grip. It snapped shut with a thunderous clang that rang through the steel casing. Counterweight handled.
