Evening Reflections
The walk back from the town square left me ready for stillness. Indoors, the house had grown dark, except for the pale glow of a streetlamp slanting through the front windowpane. I stepped onto the wide wooden sill, pausing to let my front paws settle against the cool glass. Outside, empty cobblestones glistened under the amber light, while right in front of me, a faint grey silhouette mirrored every tilt of my ears. I reached out one paw to touch the phantom reflection. The surface was hard, chill, and perfectly still. Reassured, I tucked my paws beneath me to watch the street slowly fade to sleep.
