A Foreign Intrusion
The morning glare sliced across the entryway threshold. Too bare. Too exposed. I eased myself down from the shelf edge, clattering onto the floorboards with a dry snap. An uninvited visitor blocked the perimeter: an upright black leather boot, sprawling heavily across the path. Suspicious. I approached with measured, unblinking scrutiny. Resting against its scuffed toe, I wedged my lower edge against the leather, testing its resistance. Solid. Immovable. A faint trail of dried street grit crumbled under my rim. I remained planted beside the heel, guarding the passageway. The house remains secure.cc
