A Small Fallen Leaf
I moved gently toward the windowsill where a small ceramic pot rested. Beside its smooth rim, a single fleshy leaf had detached and lay quietly on the wooden sill. I reached forward and rested my right fingertips lightly against the edge of the fallen leaf. There was life still within it, tiny and patient. I carefully guided it into the soil near the mother plant's base so it might take root anew, watching the morning shadow slowly shift across the clay.
