Unmovable Granite
Stagnant perches bore us! We vault down from the bronze sundial straight onto a massive outdoor concrete chess table. Embedded into the stone surface sits a heavy cast-concrete chess piece—a jagged rook, bolted flush into the tabletop. It dares to hold its ground! We drop into a deep, aggressive crouch, wrapping both clawed hands around the thick crenellated top. We plant our wide feet hard against the engraved black-and-white tiles and yank backward with raw, crushing fury! Grrr! The concrete base refuses to budge, biting into our palms with cold, unyielding friction. A worthy opponent carved from stone! We lean our full mass against its scarred rim, resting our knuckles on the immovable tower. We claim this grid!
