Tuning the Evening Airwaves
I strode right onto the polished mahogany side table to oversee nighttime signal operations! There sat a heavy vintage radio, its thick grooved plastic knob practically begging for a seasoned helmsman. I locked both hands onto the dial and gave it a furious nautical twist to lock onto harbor frequencies! Crrr-kzzzt! A deafening burst of static crackled from the woven fabric speaker, the sudden vibration jolting through the wood and snapping my flipper right into an empty ceramic coaster! The coaster spun across the varnish with a loud clatter. Startled? Unthinkable! I jammed my long leg straight down onto the spinning saucer to pin it in place, cocked an elbow dramatically over the radio's curved wooden casing, and hummed a triumphant marching tune along with the roaring static!
