Catching the Rainbows
I trotted back from the bakery along the quiet sidewalk and slipped through the garden gate onto the porch deck. Dangling low from the cedar railing by a loop of twine was a heavy, faceted glass prism. Taking a brisk bounce, I gave the crystal's flat edge an eager bump with my plush rice flank. It spun in a slow, gleaming arc, instantly scattering a spray of vivid rainbow specks across the weathered floorboards! I wiggled forward until I was parked right in the center of a warm violet-and-gold spot. Basking among the swirling colors made the whole afternoon feel bright and completely alive.
