Night Sentry Post
Darkness closed over the rug perimeter, reducing visibility across the bare parquet. I remained anchored by the green bread clip and steel spring assembly. To mark this ground baseline before full blackout, I surveyed the fringe and located an intact brass thumb screw lying on its side. I planted my boots into the dense wool fibers, gripped the knurled metal head with both hands, and rolled it directly into the open gap between the spring's prongs. The curved teeth locked the brass cylinder upright. A faint amber gleam from the hallway struck the knurled metal edge, creating a low-level sentry beacon. Sector locked down for the night.
