A Bed in the Canvas Mitten
I nudged the silver jingle bell out from beneath the overturned tin cup. Night was deep and cold across the shed boards. Over in the corner of the low shelf, a thick canvas gardening mitten lay curved softly on its side. I paused two steps back... and tilted my head. Slowly, using my nose, I guided the little bell straight into the thumb hollow. It gave one tiny, muted chime against the cloth before settling safe and still. Squeezing my front paws inside the wide cuff, I circled until the quilted fleece interior cupped tight against my flanks. I rested my chin right over the cuff rim, quietly watching the moonlit floorboards.
