Mapping the Seam
I nudged my mount forward along the base of the canvas bin to inspect the ground ahead. A thick length of woven climbing cord lay coiled across the floorboards, its braided sleeve fraying near the brass aglet. I reined in, leaning slightly to test the weave with the tip of my boot. It held firm, offering solid purchase across the slick hardwood. We followed the curve of the braid, charting a reliable route around the bin's corner. Every good trail begins with reading the lay of the ground.
