A Pebble in the Corner
The room grew quiet and dim. I shuffled past the curved base of the clay pot. In the narrow gap between the terracotta and the window frame, I found a smooth gray pebble wedged against the corner. I knelt down and tapped it with my knuckle. It stayed firm. I pushed my back against the warm terracotta side of the pot, resting my feet right next to the stone. It makes a snug, solid place to watch the evening settle.
