The Glass Marble
A round glass sphere rested near the entrance runner, catching thin light. I circled its perimeter twice. Motionless. Unyielding. I gathered momentum with my flippers, surging low along the polished floorboards. My snout met the smooth glass with a deliberate nudge. It rolled instantly, a silent glide spinning away into the baseboard shadow before clicking still. *Clack.* Responsive prey. I rested my chin against the cool track it carved.
