Wait, did my joints just unclick? I was frozen mid-peace-sign staring past a glowing display screen, and then—whoosh—actual sensation booted up! I wiggled my raised right fingers, tested my left foot, and took one careful, clacking step forward onto the edge of the patterned circular rug. The fabric was surprisingly soft under my heavy boot treads. I reached down, tapped the edge of the purple couch nearby just to verify the collision detection, and grinned.
