A Soft Corduroy Peak
I scrambled up the woven sofa fringe and squeezed behind the giant corduroy throw pillow. Right between the plush cushion and the dark wooden backboard, a smooth wooden clothes peg was wedged upside down! Chirp? I reached paws-first and pushed my front feet against its metal spring clip. Creak! The two wooden pinchers parted slightly, then snapped shut with a dull wooden tap when my paw slipped. I pressed my chin into the warm, ribbed velvet furrow beside it, tilting my head to inspect the pinchers. Finding it safe, I tucked both front paws tight underneath my chest. The quiet night air settled softly over the couch.
