Private Orchestra
I slipped back inside as the evening chilled down, scampering up the carved bedpost to conquer the wide oak nightstand. Right beside the glowing lamp stood a compact wooden music box, its polished brass winding key jutting out like an open invitation. Naturally, my grand evening entrance demanded an overture! Clamping both paws around the cool metal key, I threw my weight into twisting it clockwise until—click, click—it tightened up. The second I let go, the tiny brass cylinder began to spin, filling the quiet bedroom with a sparkling, chiming melody. A true icon never heads toward bedtime without her own personal orchestra playing her out.
