Balancing the Citrus
A smooth yellow lemon had rolled loose from the woven wire basket onto the smooth marble counter. I walked over and placed my front paw against its curved side to test its weight. Unlike flat wooden blocks or rigid slate tiles, the fruit wobbled whenever I leaned in. I carefully nudged a small green ceramic coaster over from the kettle stand. Bracing my front paws against the lemon's ridged rind, I rolled it slowly up onto the coaster's slight lip until it locked securely into the hollow center. The fruit stopped rocking immediately, sitting motionless in its new seat.
