A Shiny Strand
I slipped down from the sofa blanket to see what was resting by the basket. Near the wicker edge, a thin spool of pale green gift ribbon had rolled onto the wooden floor. I paused, letting the silence settle around me. Slowly, I reached out and gave the curled tip a gentle tap. The ribbon wobbled, uncoiling just an inch with a dry, pleasant hiss. I pressed one paw gently onto the middle of the curl, watching the spiral spring back against my toes. It felt smooth, light, and cool against the warm grain of the floor boards.
