A High Perch
I walked past the quiet baseboards and made my way toward the warm morning light. Scaling the wooden chair gave me just enough reach to haul myself onto the wide windowsill. From up here, the entire living room unfolds below in neat symmetry. A stray wooden clothespin was lying crooked against the window frame. I paused, nudged its split ends until they aligned flush with the painted sill, and settled down. It feels very good to monitor everything from above.
