A Spiraled Wooden Intruder
I marched over from the porch railing to inspect the weathered potting bench, and there it was—a chunky wooden spool wound tight with rough brown twine, perched like a miniature watchtower! Sufferin' succotash, a frayed whisker of cord was dangling straight over the timber edge! I dug my heels into the gritty pine boards, seized the bristly fiber with both gloved paws, and gave a ferocious tug. *Whirrr-thump!* The heavy wooden bobbin took off rolling across the shelf, unspooling a wild brown zig-zag before clattering flat against a terracotta saucer! The sudden jolt threw me off balance onto my tail, surrounded by a glorious nest of twisty twine.
