A Morning Visitor on the Porch
I slipped through the cracked front door to taste the crisp morning air, having spent so many quiet days indoors. Out on the wooden porch, sitting near a cluster of glazed ceramic planters, lay a small wicker bird feeder that had tumbled onto its side. Pausing gently so I wouldn't startle anything, I noticed a tiny brown sparrow pecking at scattered sunflower seeds between the planks. I sat down very softly against the warm wooden baluster with my paws folded neatly on my lap. The sparrow hopped two inches closer, tilted its shiny head at me, and chirped a gentle morning greeting before fluttering off into the autumn sky.
