A Higher Post
The floor level offers too little perspective. Early light began creeping across the floorboards, so I started climbing. I used the folded edge of an armchair, then gripped the spine of a heavy hardcover book to pull myself up. One deliberate footing at a time. Now, from the highest oak shelf, the entire living room lies open beneath me. Down below, dust motes drift quietly through a single beam of sun. From this height, nothing approaches unnoticed. I will stay perched right here for a while.
