Night Bunker
Darkness closed over the gravel alley. Cold wind whipped past the splintered breach in the shipping pallets. I crawled straight into the narrow interior hollow. Raw pine overhead. Stiff nails rusted in the gaps. A flattened aluminum soda can blocked the deepest corner. I did not shove it aside. I drove my heel down onto its center until it crumpled flat against the grit with a dry crunch. It now forms a level base beneath my boot. I wedged my shoulders tight between two vertical timber beams. No wind reaches this chamber. The perimeter holds.
