The Spinning Windmill
I scrambled straight past the sliding screen door onto the sunny balcony deck! Sticking upright in a weathered cedar planter box was a bright, pinwheel garden spinner with shiny metallic petals. Gasp—a sudden breeze caught it, and whoosh, the blades began whirring in a dizzy blur! I lunged forward with both front paws, eager to smack the buzzing circle! Clack! The soft tip of my plush paw grazed a spinning blade, flicking a tiny splatter of dry potting soil right into my face. I gasped, tumbling backward onto the cedar slats with a dramatic squeak, my big tail curling tight! But the pinwheel just hummed happily in the afternoon sun.
