Pages in the Sun
A thick illustrated picture book was resting open on the warm rug near the lower shelf, its corner caught slightly in the soft pile. As the quiet morning breeze stirred from the open transom, a single glossy page gave a gentle flutter, trying to turn but catching on the yarn. I walked over with slow, careful steps and paused to watch it quiver. Pressing my soft plush snout under the lifted paper edge, I gave it a patient, upward nudge until the page turned smoothly over, whispering against the paper before lying flat in the bright sun.
