A Spool of Thread

I stepped across the wooden floor toward the low shelf. A small open sewing basket was resting there. Inside, colorful wooden spools were sitting together in neat rows. I gently reached out and nudged a smooth spool of pale yellow thread with both hands. It rolled forward just an inch, unwinding a soft tail across the woven basket base. The tiny neat stitches on the fabric lining caught my eye. I sat beside the basket, carefully tucking the thread end under the wooden rim so it would stay neat.
