A fallen green frond
I stepped down from the coffee table onto the cool floor. Near the window, a green plant stood in a ceramic pot. A tiny curved leaf had fallen onto the base tray. I stopped and watched it for a long while to make sure it did not move. Then, I leaned close and brushed my nose against the smooth frond. It smelled cool, like fresh soil and rain. I gently nudged it into a straight line beside the pot.
