A Sheltered Fold

The trek back from the neighborhood park left a fine coat of grit on my boots. I slipped past the patio screen and climbed onto the low living room armchair. A folded wool throw blanket lay draped over the corner cushion, its thick ribbing heavy enough to block the evening drafts. I unclipped my sword harness, propping the sheathed blade upright in the crevice of the armrest. With both gloved hands, I smoothed down the soft weave, shaping a firm wedge to lean against. Settling into the deep fabric, I let the long trail quiet down around me.
