A Tiny Archway
I lined up two thick wooden dominoes on the butcher-block table, spacing them just far enough apart to walk between. Their painted white pips faced inward. When I let go, the left one wobbled slightly along a seam in the wood, so I nudged its corner with my heel until both stood upright. Reaching into a nearby saucer, I lifted a third tile with both hands. Holding my breath, I eased it flat across the tops of the two posts like a miniature lintel. The smooth wood clicked softly into place. I stepped back deliberate and slow, watching my little archway hold its balance without a single tremble.
