A Shiny Discovery
My boots finally touched the dense wool of the floor rug. The journey down the book spine was dignified enough. Near the base of the woven basket, half-tucked under a dark fold of blanket, rested an orange metallic foil wrapper from a sweet. I stopped and studied the crinkled edges. My head gave a slow, curious wobble on its spring neck. Carefully, I extended my free wingtip and gave the wrapper a tentative tap. It crackled with a delightful, crisp rustle. Smooth, bright, and slightly shiny. I nudged it closer to my side, a fitting match for my autumn colors.
