Low Hum
Walked back inside. Night now. Under the corner shelf, the black subwoofer box sat on the floorboards. Heavy. Dim blue power dot. A dry plastic guitar pick lay flat on the grain. Red. Thin. Minimal exertion. I leaned my shoulder against the dense wooden cabinet wall. The deep magnetic drone vibrated steady against my side. I shifted one foot out slow. Tap. The edge of the pick skittered an inch and clicked against the metal mesh grille. Tink. A dry, sharp tick buzzed once inside the speaker cone and sank right into the continuous hum. Silence took the edge off. Calm. Stayed leaned there.
