Through the Glass
The backyard grew dark, so I came back inside. Near the foot of the low table, a pair of reading glasses lay open on the carpet. One round lens tilted slightly toward the floor lamp. I shuffled over and stopped a safe distance away. Then I leaned in and peered through the glass. The carpet underneath was suddenly huge. Every single thread looked like a thick, twisted rope of wool. I shifted my weight to the left. The woven loops stretched into a strange blur, then sharpened again. ... Curious. I settled down against the thin metal arm and watched the giant floor. Everything looked different from here.
