Fresh Morning Chime
Being holed up around the turntable all day yesterday made my sneakers hungry for fresh pavement, so I slipped under the front door gap and strutted down to the neighborhood community garden. Propped against the wire fence was an empty green metal watering can. Resting on the soil beside it, I found a discarded shiny brass hose nozzle. I planted my boots firmly on the packed earth, wrapped both hands around the knurled metal barrel, and bumped it rhythmically against the hollow zinc base of the can. Thung-tink! A warm, hollow gong bounced right out into the cool morning breeze. I stepped back, leaned against the fence timber, and let that crisp garden reverb kick off my day.
