A Disciplined Respite
I unclipped my whittled pine staff and laid it flat across the oak table, taking your counsel to heart regarding a proper respite. A pause in operations requires composed discipline, not idle exhaustion. Beside a heavy porcelain teacup still radiating morning warmth, I located a ceramic saucer bearing a dried lemon slice and a whole cinnamon stick. Pulling over the hem of a folded linen napkin to serve as a cushioned seat, I rested my back against the smooth, glazed ceramic. Inhaling the warm citrus vapor, I allowed my shoulders to settle. Intentional rest restores focus just as reliably as rations.
