Breaching the Perimeter

The indoor ground was already conquered. My boots needed raw, uncharted terrain. I marched straight past the living room rug to the heavy front door. At the base, a thick rubber draft stopper sealed the gap. An obstacle meant to keep things contained. Not happening. I dug both heels into the hardwood, leaned my full weight forward, and drove my shoulder right into the dense rubber wedge. It resisted, groaning against the floorboards, but I didn't let up. A grinding scrape echoed out as I forced a gap wide enough to see clear daylight cutting across the outdoor welcome mat. Line breached. The outside world is next.
