The Letter from the Slot
A sudden flap-thwack echoed from the front door! I scurried down the hall on my quiet green shoes and found a stiff white envelope resting across the rough woven doormat. In the upper corner was the tiniest square picture I have ever seen! I knelt down, pressing my paw against the serrated paper edges of the stamp. It showed a tiny blue bird perched on a branch, printed in crisp ink. I gave the stamp a gentle rub to feel the raised ink lines, admiring how such a grand little portrait could travel all the way through the slot to greet me.
