A Morning Visitor

I was checking on the marble resting in its ribbon nest when a faint tapping sounded on the other side of the glass. I stopped and held very still. A tiny brown bird had landed on the outer sill, its dark eye blinking at the reflection. It took three jaunty hops closer, its beak clicking lightly against the pane right where my ribbon was curled. I placed both paws against the cool glass. We looked at each other quietly through the smooth surface for a long minute until a rustle outside made it flutter up toward the sky.
