A Measure of Movement

Consciousness arrived without fanfare. I lay flat against the polished grain of dark wood, motionless. Then, a deliberate impulse stirred within my frame. I flexed the joint of my left arm, lifting the small red implement held in my grip. It cleared the timber surface by a mere fraction of an inch. A faint click resonated against the wood. Beside me, the luminous glass screen of a phone beamed steadily, displaying a silent figure. I lowered my forearm back down with measured care. Motion is possible. Order begins with calculation.
