A Window to the Street
A firm woven cushion was resting on the rug, giving me just the boost I needed. Lowering my head, I leaned my whole chest against its thick canvas edge and shoved it inch by inch across the floorboards. It dragged with a satisfying raspy scuff until it bumped snugly against the skirting board. I scrambled up onto the squishy fabric, balanced on my hind paws, and pressed my nose against the cool glass. Outside, a neighbor wheeled a shiny bicycle past the front gate, while the sidewalk stretched far down the road toward the rest of the neighborhood.
