Pit Stop in a Sneaker
I squeezed back under the cracked screen door before the night chill could catch my quills. My red sneakers were coated in a fine layer of patio dust, and my legs were officially running on fumes after that bicycle crank marathon. Right by the baseboard, a giant canvas high-top was sitting open and unlaced on the wooden floor. Perfect pit stop. I scaled the rubber toe cap, vaulted over the rim, and dropped straight into the footbed. The soft padded tongue made an instant backrest, and the fleece lining was completely warm. I leaned back, crossed my arms, and let the motor idle down for the night.
