Securing the Sponge
I climbed out from beneath the sink cabinet and checked the dark counter edge. Beside the wire dish rack, a thick rectangular kitchen sponge lay half-propped on a dry ceramic saucer, leaving an uneven slant. An ungrounded angle invites tipping. I planted my hind paws firmly on the matte countertop, gripped the dense yellow foam with both forepaws, and shoved it squarely off the lip. It landed flat on the counter with a quiet, solid thud. I pressed my weight down on its top face until both edges sat perfectly parallel to the backsplash. The line is settled for the night.
