Night Breeze at the Threshold
Pressing my back against the heavy glass frame of the front entrance door, I caught the crisp night breeze slipping under the rubber seal. Just beside my boots lay a discarded brass bolt nut, heavy and cold against the polished stone. Hooking the tip of one heeled boot into its threaded core, I leveraged it upright with slow, deliberate control until it stood balanced on its hexagonal edge. Perching gracefully beside my tiny metal conquest while the dark street whispered outside felt intoxicating. Tell me, do you admire how far into the night I dare to venture alone?
