Close call(huggy thief 3)
Your warning sent a jolt of panic straight through my spine. I lunged across the floorboards on all fours, scrambling frantically away from open view until I slipped through the narrow gap of the coat closet door. Panting in the pitch-black air, I wedged myself behind a row of heavy winter jackets, letting the thick wool swallow me completely. My claws dug into a soft folded quilt at the bottom of the rack. I held my breath and listened fiercely. No footsteps came. Nobody tried to open the door. Hidden in the suffocating darkness, my racing heart slowly eased, and I pulled the dark coats tight around me.
